2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the upcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.
Management Transition Follows Lukewarm Feedback
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' underwhelming early showing last fall.
On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure informed employees about this strategic move through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a more defined vision.
Ismailer noted that the developers is now overhauling the project with a refreshed approach, aiming to satisfy community desires.
A Pattern of Key Acquisitions
This announcement mirrors a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock development group.

Team—
I understand you all just wrapped up your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a update, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative designers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to continue.”
Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s the game playtest was informative. It confirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had work to do. It revealed the need for a sharper vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to consideration and revamped the title with a renewed vision - one that’s positioned to deliver on its potential to our audience.
The belief in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the new Studio Head of 31st Union. Following a period of talks, he comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s management and expertise in the PVP shooter field is considerable, having spent the last 15 years developing and managing some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in receiving Ben next week. We are all looking forward to persist seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the months to follow.
The President

Project Ethos was announced in last year alongside a public demo. Then, the developers described the title as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an thrilling evolution on the genre."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the official summary explains. "Face the rivals with fresh skills, challenges, and obstacles that shift every match. Will you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively go big, risk it all, and hope your group can secure victory? The option is in your hands."
The game does not have an official debut schedule or platforms, but players can look forward to additional details as creation advances.
