Together Can Be Streamed, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Relationship.

We present a challenge for those in enduring partnerships who appreciate scary movies: Settle in with your loved one and watch Together. This independent film success of 2025 has now made its streaming debut on Hulu. On the surface, it might appear like conventional biological terror, but inside Together lies a deep examination about how we choose to love one another.

A Debut Feature Delving into The Nuances of Love

Together marks the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, partners that have remained a couple for a decade. Married in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie bring a unique chemistry to their roles, expertly portraying both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The narrative begins when Tim and Millie relocate from the big city to the country for professional reasons. A somewhat stereotypical plot device, sure, but that’s mostly where the tropes conclude. Together evolves into as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While hiking near their rural residence, a storm hits, and Millie and Tim discover an underground cave. After a night spent there and finally finding a way out, a strange force begins influencing the pair. This force creates a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond emotional intimacy.

The entire film is a slow burn fright fest, interspersing moments of dreamlike terrors, disturbing (but never too gross) physical transformations, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes during something horrific). Michael Shanks skillfully blends these components neatly and presents them in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is only the two lead actors, and they masterfully render manifold depths to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a emotional and physical gap. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his unwillingness to pursue anything but his floundering music career inexorably rises.

Conversely, Tim feels trapped and isolated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve left the city and distant from his support system. He fears the concept of totally forfeiting his personal autonomy in another person. This fear is further exacerbated by the circumstance he can’t drive and is dependent on Millie for getting around.

The director's cleverest decision is that he refrains from painting Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

Both characters grapple with the type of challenges that are inherent in most partnerships over a long period. At their core, they continue to care for one another. They still laugh together, provide solace, and are vulnerable at times. But beneath it all, there’s an persistent undercurrent of doubt about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the otherworldly presence in Together act as a metaphor for these anxieties of codependency and totally devoting oneself to another person, the symbolism avoids being hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes provide a ideal counterpart to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the frights and the fights serve the other symbiotically.

A Debated Finale

Together’s final act, which is best experienced firsthand, has left audiences divided on the movie's final takeaway about unhealthy partnerships. Accounts suggest that single viewers have seen the movie as a compelling reason for remaining unattached. On the other hand, a few pairs experiencing tension found that the film ultimately assisted them resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could potentially serve as a great barometer of how you view relationships. Will the finale plant anxiety and horror, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you identify in either protagonist and feel frustration, or simply glance toward your other half and utter, “We could get through that together”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can experience today.

Together is streaming on the streaming service Hulu at present.
